Maps

This is something I’ve wanted to do for quite awhile now*, create a wall of maps representing each place I’ve lived over the course of my short almost-30 years**. There are some beautiful ones out there and I have rummaged the interwebs to find coordinating prints I love. I’m sharing them with you now, trusting you will not buy them all up before I have a chance to save for and purchase them one by one. You sneaky devils.

When O and I were talking about moving in together, I mentally added two more locations to my list so his homes wouldn’t be left out. While it was NOT easy to find that Israel print, it was absolutely worth it. It’s my favorite of the bunch, although the population density map of Boston is gorgeous and the neighborhood map of Minneapolis is so cleanly designed. Between O and I, we’ve lived in Colorado, Kansas, North Dakota, Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Israel. We’re not going to be able to fit them all on a single wall of our tiny house if we keep moving around so much.

* My sister is my inspiration here. In the front hallway of her family’s home, she has a dozen or so black & white photographs of important houses in their collective history. They range from childhood homes to the pink house my great grandparents built. It’s lovely.

** I call my years short because of this article I read yesterday. I am cultivating an attitude of youth.

Emily - Sharp eyes you have. Ork is coming out with a Denver print ‘soon’ so I put the Minneapolis one in as a place-holder.

Becca :: Making Room in Sicily - I love the Tel Aviv one! My husband spent a lot of time there during the year he was deployed to the Sinai, and I would visit him in TA when I could. It’s a fabulous city and we LOVE it. Might think about getting this for my hubby!

Emily - I love TA, too! O lived in Israel until he was ten, and we just went to visit for the first time together this year. And the print: it really is my favorite, but it’s the only one of the bunch that is not being printed on a wide scale! If I find another, I’ll send the link your way.

Stina - I love the Minneapolis poster! When did you live in my fine city?

February 22, 2013 - 1:30 pm

Emily - Hey Stina! You caught me. I’ve never lived in Minneapolis, but the Denver poster from that company hasn’t been released yet so I had to use that one as a temporary replacement. If you like that one, these are really cool, too! I just saw them today or would have included them in my post!

Maggy - One of each? Yes.
Also: I have 2 tour guides just like #3 that I found in our office when cleaning it out. I immediately hid them for myself and plan on framing them in our new apartment. They are AWESOME.

Emily - Lucky.

Does that mean you have a new apartment?!

kandyce - em-

one of the things i love about our place is the collection of old maps we have! :) my grandmother did a lot of traveling to the middle east in the 60s and 70s, and i inherited all of her middle eastern travel stuff a few years ago. all of that is to say, have you tried combing old issues of national geographic/ thrift stores/ etc?

also, i love this denver print: http://www.etsy.com/listing/70510027/denver-neighborhood-map-hand-drawn-in?ref=usr_faveitems

Emily - Oh, yes. I always troll thrift stores for maps. Your grandma sounds awesome.
